Lewisham Chess Club moving online - lichess

19th March, 2020

With the increasing uncertainty surrounding the rising coronavirus cases, and likely government restrictions, we are moving online our operations online for the time being.

We have chosen the lichess platform, a free chess server.

Lewisham Chess Club members are encouraged to sign-up for an account and join the 'Lewisham Chess Club' team, letting Andrew know your username so he can admit you.

Our first Arena will be held on 25-March, organised by Jude.

Lewisham vs Ilford - London League Div2 Match Postponed

16th March, 2020

Unfortunately we have taken the decision to postpone our Lonodn League match against Ilford, scheduled for Wednesday 17th March.

With increasing worries around the coronavirus, Ilford have been unable to raise a team, and, given the circumstances, we have asked that the match be postponed rather than them defaulting on this basis.

With worrying news about the increasing cases of coronavirus, the Kent League has suspended all matches until further notice.

At time of writing we had qualified for the Stevenson Cup semi-finals as group winners of the Metropolitan section.

Important win for Lewisham 2 (7-3 vs Cavendish)

5th March, 2020

LCL.Logo.final.jpg

In absence of team captain, Andrew  (still sunning himself in Mexico), Lewisham's London League 2nd team scored an important victory against relegation rivals Cavendish 2.

Despite defaulting on Board 9, a quick win by Jacques levelled matters, and no defeats across the team saw us win convincingly 7-3.

That result puts our destiny firmly in our own hands, with Wanstead (P8  0.5 Pts) and Metropolitan (P9  2.5 pts) our most serious rivals in the scrap to stay up.

Important Win in the London League

27th November, 2019

Yesterday evening we took an important stride toward promotion to London League's top tier by edging out promotion rivals British Bangla Chess Association  5.5-4.5

Eventually it was our strength in depth that counted, with boards 7-10 all winning and securing the vital match point.

Team Blitz Competition 2019

29th September, 2019

Unfortunately down on numbers, only six teams contested the 3rd Annual Lewisham Team Blitz Tournament this year. However, the teams who did take part seemed to enjoy the night, if not the runaway victory by the Kingslayers team of Madara, Jude, Cem and Max. 2nd-placed Sidcup Warriors finished 8.5 points behind. Player of the Tournament was undoubtedly Max John who finished with a remarkable 10/10. Cem wasn't far behind with an outstanding 9/10 (8 wins and 2 draws). Kingslayers took the Team prize of £54 and Max took the Player prize of £18. Many Thanks to all who participated and we'll see you in the early part of September next year.

Lewisham v Beckenham Inaugural Trophy Match

18th September, 2019

Tonight we contested the first Pitt-Yavash Trophy.

Michael Pitt was a long-standing member, and long time secretary at the club, and we are delighted to honour his contribution.

Lewisham held sway over a relatively inexperienced Beckenham team and even with the addition of 3 Lewisham players guesting for Beckenham, Lewisham ran out comfortable 10.5-2.5 winners . A sterner test awaits us when we face Beckenham & Charlton 1 in our upcoming London League fixture
